Security Breach Receives National Attention

The recent security breach at CardSystems Solutions has received significant national attention due to the large number of affected accounts. It has been reported that potentially over 40 million cards of all brands were exposed. MasterCard reported that the compromised data included names, account numbers and verification codes that could be used to commit fraud; however, it did not include Social Security numbers, addresses, or birth dates which are necessary for identity theft.

CardSystems Solutions is a merchant processor that connects acquiring institutions to the networks. Below is a high-level diagram of the relationship:

Late last week, Visa notified OneBridge that they have seen an increase in fraud reports from issuers due to the breach. As a result, Visa is recommending that if issuers do not close the accounts listed in their CAMS bulletins, they should monitor them very closely for suspicious activity.

As OneBridge president, Kim Graham Lee, messaged in her email last week, OneBridge is committed to keeping our clients and their cardholders secure. We are currently in compliance with a variety of required and voluntary network audits for physical and information security, including: SAS70, Visa CISP, Network Security Assessment, and penetration tests. We assure you we will continue to focus on security as a top priority moving forward.

OneBridge Client Tour 2005: The Journey Continues

The OneBridge team is on track for meeting their goal of visiting all clients by the end of this summer. In June, members of the team made it to RTP Federal Credit Union in Durham, NC and Drover Street Federal Credit Union in Indianapolis, IN for partner reviews. "Meeting with clients in a face-to-face setting is incredibly valuable," said Jim Strahl, senior client service manager. "It helps us ensure that we understand the goals and strategies of our client institutions and gives them an opportunity to share their feedback with us." Here are a few photos from the most recent visits:

OneBridge President Shares Rebranding Story with Marketing Group

On Tuesday, May 24, 2005 - almost exactly 9 months after AmeriCard officially became OneBridge - president Kim Graham Lee delivered a presentation to an Indianapolis-based marketing peer group about her experiences with the rebranding process. The presentation was entitled "What's in a Name: The Challenges of Rebranding a Company, Product or Service."

Kim's central message stressed the importance of understanding that a brand is not just a new name and a new look. A brand is a promise, and it is through the delivery of that promise that the brand is realized. She addressed everything from the legal issues involved in finding a new name to the creative process of designing the new look.

"Preparing for and sharing the OneBridge story gave me a wonderful chance to reflect on the last year and a half," said Kim. "Based on what we're hearing from our clients, we've made significant progress in living out our brand promise. I am very proud of what we have accomplished, and I am even more excited when I think of the opportunities that lie ahead for us to help our clients realize the value of their card programs."

  • Merchant frustration with high interchange rates has resulted in five small retailers filing a class-action lawsuit against Visa, MasterCard International and three dozen of the associations’ large member banks and their affiliates. The lawsuit charges the groups with violating antitrust rules in the way they set credit card interchange prices.
